This works for me. It might not work for you.

It's no secret I love to read. I mean, my library is spreading out from the room it's in. And books are quite literally all over the house. Well, they're not in the main bathroom - yet - but I can't say there's none in the en-suite.

And I was looking for a foundation in Irish myth to base my ritual structure on, when Lora mentioned to me about the Settling of the Manor at Tara. It's about two lines I base the whole thing on - read more details in this week's blog post if you want them.

But I wanted to talk more about why I wanted something authentically Irish to base it on. Y'see, a lot of ritual opening and closings out there are heavily leaning into Wiccan and Angelic practices. And there's nothing wrong with that - for some of my rituals, I do in fact use archangels as north, east, south and west - but they aren't usually Brigid related. And I wanted something rooted in Irish tradition and lore. So the information coming out of the Settling of the Manor at Tara was ideal.

For me.

Here, my dear darlings, is the crux though. This works FOR ME. It might not work for you. You might find a different structure helpful.

But it's important to have a ritual opening and closing that you can connect to. Just because this works for me, doesn't mean it will for you. And as I said a few weeks ago - it's really important to have a firm closing anyway!!

P. S. If you want to learn more about this structure, I'll be teaching it properly in the Kindling Brigid's Flame course. Coming up shortly. Want to know more? (No pressure if it's not for you right now.)

Hi, I'm Orlagh, of Brigid's Forge

I'm dedicated to helping women in particular develop their spiritual path in life. I'm focused heavily on Brigid in Ireland, although not all my followers are! I teach, speak, coach and mentor people to help them along their own individual path, based on what lore we have, but also allowing for each individual path to develop as it needs to.

I'm great at suppressing emotions. Like, truly excellent. And the problem with that is - they come back to haunt me. Usually at the most inconvenient time, like in the middle of an important ritual. Or worse - I get a feeling and I don't know if it's mine or not. To be able to engage with it appropriately, because I don't know how that emotion feels in my body. Like, what does excitement actually feel like? Well, in my case, it can be butterflies in the tummy, or a shortness of breath, or a...

Content warning: this one goes into disordered eating and food restriction in some detail. Skip if you need to. I mentioned in last week's newsletter about fainting on the steelworks floor - never a good idea. But over the course of about 4 years, I started fainting more and more often. My heart rate dropped and my blood pressure was lower than recommended. I was also a size 18 (UK sizes - adjust for whatever system you use!!). But it took a doctor telling me I most likely had an eating...

Have you any idea of the panic you can cause a bunch of hardened steelworkers by fainting on the factory floor? Especially when you're a woman. Half of them are afraid to even touch you, convinced something seriously wrong has happened - when actually it was just me being careless with my own energy. Honestly, the conversations I had after that one. When I finally came to, the estimates from my colleagues at the time ranged from hours to days. I'd guess it was seconds at most in reality (for...
