🙏 Ignite hope - light up the dark now!

I read a post on Facebook earlier and it's been playing on my mind, since. It's about the ship, RMS Carpathia, the one that rescued the survivors from the Titanic. And it serves as a teachable moment I think, given the state of the world, and various states within that world.

The Carpathia was about 4 hours away from the Titanic when they received the distress call, by any reasonable engineer's estimate. But they shut down all other power to the ship except for engines and dining rooms to receive the survivors and made it in just over 3. They shut off lights, heating, water, everything other than what was required to help the survivors and get there asap. For the record, the absolute top speed that ship was designed to travel at was 14 knots. They averaged something like 17.5 knots to reach the Titanic in the time they did...

Engines don't do that, by the way. Just as an fyi, there are reasons that engineers have designed top speeds, but this ship and her crew pulled everything out of the bag and screw the consequences.

We all know they didn't succeed in getting there in time. We all know the devastation that met them in the wake of the Titanic's sinking. They saved 705 passengers out of 2228 (my numbers might not be exactly right here, they come from the wiki article).
But you know what they did? They tried. Starting with the captain, and including the crew, the passengers, everyone on board apparently donated resources to help those survivors. To save what they could.

I've been feeling pretty overwhelmed the last while. There is a lot going on at home, in life, in the world, that all just seems to be focused on how badly things are going. But I read this post this morning and I've been reading accounts and reports since I read it.
And I'm taking hope from the account. It's actually perked up my spirits a bit, not to be too facile about it. It ties in to something Brigid constantly reminds me of. We can't save everyone. The task of saving the world, of saving every man, woman and child that needs saving is too great for any one person, or probably any one group of people to do.

No more than the passengers on the Carpathia could do nothing to help speed the ship. But they did what they could - clothes, foods, beds...

So, what can I do? I can keep offering things like the Hope and Healing Hub . I can keep offering emails, blog posts, whatever I've got.
I can keep offering things like the Brigid's Forge Collective. I can keep going, thinking of more ways to support people.

And so can you. There are very, very few of us that can make a worldwide impact. But we can make an impact in our own locality. We can make an impact in our own families. We can make an impact in our online communities.

We can keep going. We can keep doing good in this world.

If you have an idea of how I can further help people, let me know. I'm open to ideas. I can't implement them all, but I am open to them.

And yes, I'm cross posting this on all my emails, social media, etc...

But don't lose hope. Don't lose the hope that there is someone, somewhere that needs what you're currently doing in this world. I guarantee you there is.

Hi, I'm Orlagh, of Brigid's Forge

I'm dedicated to helping women in particular develop their spiritual path in life. I'm focused heavily on Brigid in Ireland, although not all my followers are! I teach, speak, coach and mentor people to help them along their own individual path, based on what lore we have, but also allowing for each individual path to develop as it needs to.

I wanted to drop into your inbox with a gentle reminder — enrollment for Brigid’s Forge Collective is closing soon, and I’d love for you to be part of it. This is a six-month group coaching journey rooted in Brigid’s Path — the framework I’ve developed to help you build a spiritual practice that’s grounded, personal, and deeply aligned with your own values and needs. In a world that feels increasingly chaotic, it might seem like now isn’t the time to focus on spirituality. But I believe the...

I got out of the practice of writing last week. A week off work, followed by some major issues to deal with meant various things got dropped by the wayside. And a blog post and the emails were some of them. Fierce sorry about that, but it really was a case of prioritisation... I had a lovely weekend though. I sat on the couch on Saturday and didn't move. I think I did fewer than 700 steps all day. I needed it though. I came home on Friday night and I was tired. Like tired. Didn't make it to...

A lot of you seem to enjoy last week's "life" update, so I thought I'd give it a go again this week. It's my birthday weekend! I'm 45 on Sunday, which also happens to be Father's Day here in the Emerald Isle. I was also born on Father's Day, so I keep saying I was obviously the best present Dad ever got for the occasion. He occasionally agrees with me... Am I celebrating? Hell yeah! I didn't get to celebrate my 40th as I wished because of bloody Covid, so I'm celebrating this year. the family...
