Yes I'm back talking about the Great Famine again. And we'll be moving onto our duties as members of society as well - again linked to Brig Ambue. Y 'see, I believe in practical spirituality. For me, unless we're practical about our beliefs and our practices, what's the point? I know plenty of people disagree with me - just look at the state of fundamentalism of all sorts in the US right now - but this is my standpoint. It doesn't have to be yours. Brig Ambue care about the ones who were cowless, who essentially had no value in society. Extrapolate that to the modern world. Start thinking about who is judged to have value and who hasn't in your society? Did you know that July was Disability Pride Month? I didn't! But it opened my eyes to the need for awareness around all sorts of things. It's not just access to buildings and rooms. It's not just car park spaces. It's how every member of our society gets to live a life with dignity, pursue their dreams and generally, engage with life on their terms. Can you imagine how anyone depending on a wheelchair is coping in Gaza right now? Or someone in Sudan who desperately needs medication to survive? Or someone in the US looking at Medicaid draining away from them? These aren't hypotheticals. I can pretty much guarantee that there are people in all of these areas, and more, struggling, or dying, because of lack of fundamental necessities. You think Brig Ambue would walk by them? So what do we do? We can't care about every cause in the world. Or while we might care, we can't give energy to every cause in the world. But we can give energy to some of them. And yes, starting local is usually most people's starting point. Who in your community needs help? Can you give or get them that help? Or indeed, help them get that help themselves? Reframe from "I can do nothing" to "I can do something" and see where you end up. Maybe it's just picking up some litter. Maybe it's asking a neighbour if they need a lift to the shops. Or maybe it's ringing your local politician to let them know exactly what you think of what's happening in your ruling body right now (this option might not be safe in all areas of the world, so apply with care) If we're a global society, which we increasingly are - then we need to consider these issues on a global basis. So, what are you going to do? BrÃd libh Órlagh P. S. I'm dedicated to helping women in particular develop their spiritual path in life. I'm focused heavily on Brigid in Ireland, although not all my followers are! I teach, speak, coach and mentor people to help them along their own individual path, based on what lore we have, but also allowing for each individual path to develop as it needs to.
I wanted to drop into your inbox with a gentle reminder — enrollment for Brigid’s Forge Collective is closing soon, and I’d love for you to be part of it. This is a six-month group coaching journey rooted in Brigid’s Path — the framework I’ve developed to help you build a spiritual practice that’s grounded, personal, and deeply aligned with your own values and needs. In a world that feels increasingly chaotic, it might seem like now isn’t the time to focus on spirituality. But I believe the...
I got out of the practice of writing last week. A week off work, followed by some major issues to deal with meant various things got dropped by the wayside. And a blog post and the emails were some of them. Fierce sorry about that, but it really was a case of prioritisation... I had a lovely weekend though. I sat on the couch on Saturday and didn't move. I think I did fewer than 700 steps all day. I needed it though. I came home on Friday night and I was tired. Like tired. Didn't make it to...
A lot of you seem to enjoy last week's "life" update, so I thought I'd give it a go again this week. It's my birthday weekend! I'm 45 on Sunday, which also happens to be Father's Day here in the Emerald Isle. I was also born on Father's Day, so I keep saying I was obviously the best present Dad ever got for the occasion. He occasionally agrees with me... Am I celebrating? Hell yeah! I didn't get to celebrate my 40th as I wished because of bloody Covid, so I'm celebrating this year. the family...
