There are times when both my blogs come together in a holistic sense. For two very separate reasons, I was writing about St. Brigid and anger in the Forge today, but I was also writing about anger over in engineer.org (that's my women in engineering blog, for those who haven't seen it before. Much more career focused although my spirituality does make an appearance) I'll be honest, I have a blog on free speech and the power of speech, particularly as it relates to magical practice in Ireland in my head. But last night there was a post in the Facebook group about only finding information on St. Brigid being meek and mild. It drives me nuts - this information, in the hagiographies, is all available for free on sites like UCC Celt. I'll even make it easier for people Cogitosus (Or the second two might be confused there, but still...) Now, if you want to know more about St. Brigid, I have a class available on her, you can look at that here. (Yes, the new school is getting there. I've got individual classes set up now, I just haven't got the main school page up and running yet. I'm delving deep into DNS and other internet details that I'm not confident on!! But, y'know, getting there. So if there is a class you wanted to buy and need the link, just let me know and I'll pass on the correct link to use!) I get frustrated by people just doing a casual Chat GPT question or Google search and not looking for the root information. So, anger is on my mind right now, which is feeding into this. Either way - Brigid, saint or deity, is not meek and mild. Women just don't succeed in male dominated professions like the law, medicine and engineering (ahem, the Poet, the Healer and the Smith) without a bit of fire in them. Meek and mild just doesn't cut it. And, to be honest, expecting our saints, male or female, to be meek and mild is a much later concept than the 5th - 7th centuries!! I mean - reading St Patrick's hagiographies, with him straight up battling demons and firing lightning from his staff... meek and mild is not saintly, necessarily. So, if you come across this stuff, please - don't take my word for it. Go look at the documents we have. If you have access to JSTOR or similar sites, use them - most of them allow access to most of the older papers at least for free. And if you have questions following this, please hit reply. I'm not angry at the people saying all they can find is the meek and mild stuff. I'm angry at the people propagating that rubbish. They should know better. Bríd libh Órlagh P. S. And yes, some people were asking me throughout the weekend if the Brigid Sessions are still available. The short answer is yes, pick them up here! If you're not sure if one of the sessions is right for you - reach out and reply to this email. We'll figure it out! Check out the links below: Patreon Website |
I'm dedicated to helping women in particular develop their spiritual path in life. I'm focused heavily on Brigid in Ireland, although not all my followers are! I teach, speak, coach and mentor people to help them along their own individual path, based on what lore we have, but also allowing for each individual path to develop as it needs to.
For those of you who link to Instagram or the blog before checking email, you'll already know I'm wearing one of my new favourite t-shirts today. If you don't do that however, here's you're warning that my annual mission to bring joy and happiness to my colleagues through passive-aggressive t-shirts and outfits befitting the season has begun. Yes, this is the t-shirt. I keep telling my senior management it's to help with morale. Mainly mine, but really, if I'm happy, it means fewer people are...
I know, another extra email. But many of you were interested in my menopause journey last time, so I thought ye might have an interested in yesterday's nurse visit. Yesterday was my second visit to the nurse at the menopause clinic in my gp's practice. This was with a nurse practitioner - for those who don't know this is a nurse who has undergone extra training and qualifications to be allowed to prescribe some medicines. Again a thoroughly positive experience. Some key highlights: Everything...
Yes I know how ridiculous that sounds! But if you read today's blog post you'll know why I put it that way. I'm gonna be honest - I'm struggling today. Work is hassly. Nothing serious, but you know when you get to the end of the day and there's just nothing you can put your finger on that's done? Yeah. One of those. Plus I cam in early purely to get two specific tasks done and because of some other stuff, it didn't get done. Neither task. So, it's at times like this I turn to Brigid asking...
